The National University of Singapore Environmental Research Institute (NERI) hosts INTPREP, a multidisciplinary program to run in conjunction with Indonesian knowledge partners (Institut Pertanian Bogor) and industry partners (two of the largest paper and pulp companies).

We are learning more about the processes involved in peat decomposition and revegetation in tropical peat systems thanks to this program.

We have taken a novel “Sky-to-Soil” approach to bridge the gap between basic science and outcomes for field application and for policy development. Our research entails both extensive field campaigns and in-depth laboratory examinations, bringing together specialists in geospatial science, forest ecology and diversity, terrestrial and fluvial connectivity, and integrative systems biology and data science.

Post-doctoral fellows, research assistants and Principal Investigators from NUS’ Faculty of Science and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences work closely with world-renowned specialists to achieve the program’s deliverables. Solutions for peat restoration science are developed by the core team in collaboration with our Indonesian knowledge-partners and major industry collaborators.
